The National Guard Counterdrug Program is a unique, enduring initiative that supports law enforcement agencies and community-based organizations in their efforts to disrupt illicit drug trafficking and reduce drug abuse nationwide.
Operating at the state level, the program is active in every state, territory, and the District of Columbia, each led by a Counterdrug Coordinator and supported by dedicated National Guard teams. These teams are composed of specially trained service members who provide mission-critical support, including intelligence analysis, surveillance, and interdiction assistance, in accordance with applicable laws and authorities.
National Guard Counterdrug teams work in close partnership with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to strengthen operational effectiveness through information sharing, specialized training, and technical support. The program also supports community-based prevention and drug education initiatives, reinforcing a comprehensive approach to addressing the drug threat.
By leveraging the unique capabilities and resources of the National Guard, the Counterdrug Program enhances the overall effectiveness of national, state, and local drug control efforts.
